A few years ago one of my best friends wanted me to drive to Watkins Glen, NY for her wedding. It was a lovely little ceremony with just 4 of us in a place I’d never been. She and her now husband go every year to this area of New York. Why? WINE COUNTRY! Now, I’m not a huge drinker (I did all the crazy drinking in my 20s), but I love me some sweet wine. I don’t care if it’s white, blush or red, it just needs to taste like juice.
I’d always heard of “wine country”, but again, I had never been before. After that day in August 2020, my husband and I make it a point to go at least every other year. We went 2 years ago with same bestie as a birthday/anniversary/bestie trip. Spent 2 days there going to a bunch of wineries that I had really never even heard of. Even managed to make brand new friends!

We even made some fun shirts for the weekend because we wanted to be cool kids. That weekend I went back to Kansas with 42 bottles of wine. That was in 2021. I still have about 26 of those from that time at my house. Fast forward to this past weekend when we went again on this trip. The only down side was we had to only do a day trip, and one of the wineries we really loved had closed down shortly after we had gone the two years before. I did much better this time. I only ended up with 14 bottles to take back to Kansas. Because it was only a day trip, we didn’t get to go to as many wineries as they all close by 4pm. That’s the only reason I didn’t end up with more wine.

Honestly though, the views are the best part. You go for the view, and end up with wine as a bonus. Wine country in New York is located in the Finger Lakes region. It’s absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The vineyards in the area are lovely. I keep telling bestie and hubs that we should just buy one and make wine. The only problem is, I don’t have that kind of money…
If you ever get a chance to go, I highly recommend a trip to Wine Country in New York. There are a ton of wineries for all pallets. I happen to be a sweet only wine drinker, but almost every winery has multiple selections from very dry to very very sweet. There really is something for everyone. There are even some that have beer and distilleries! Hubs is never disappointed when we go!
