Blast to the Past

Had to take a quick trip to upstate NY to visit family on the hubs side. I didn’t bring a computer, so it’s been difficult to check the website and socials. It’s been crazy, but s I drive through the place I grew up, I can’t help the memories of the past that hit me like a freight train. It’s interesting how much things change when you haven’t been somewhere in a long time. I come back to my hometown usually once a year, or every other year, but I never seem to visit certain places as often. I drove through the town where my high school is, and the amount of new things is stifling at times. When you have a vision of how it was, and now there’s something completely different, you need to take a breath and try not to have an emotional break down. The building I used to take cans to earn some money for candy is completely demolished and replaced by some office building. A house I used to walk past burned down and all that is left is the chimney. The house my friend grew up in has been remodeled and painted and doesn’t look the same as it did. Even my parents house that I grew up in has had a makeover. Change is hard for sure, but seeing things from your childhood that has changed in what seems like such a short time really does prove that time moves quickly. Even faster the older you get… I graduated 18 years ago, but in my mind, it was only a few months ago. Until I go to my hometown and see all the new things that were there and all the old things forgotten in time.
