Let’s Ride!

One of my favorite things to do is ride my motorcycle with the hubby! We have matching Yamaha R3’s and we enjoy the thrill of the open road. During my last signing, we took an extended trip to the Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee. For those of you who don’t know, it’s an 11 mile stretch of highway in the Smoky Mountains that contains 318 curves in that one little section. That doesn’t count all the other curves to get to that section. We first went 5 years ago, and it was amazing! Have been dying to go back ever since!

What a difference 5 years can make! While we had been riding for a few years before going the first time, we were still babies. We were still learning our confidence in our bikes. Same bikes, but different people. I was 30lbs heavier the first year. I was wearing “comfy”, yet uncomfortable clothing. I didn’t feel confident in myself, or my bike, so I was slow. And that’s saying something because with all those turns you have to be slow anyways. Hubby was in hot pants and boots, and we only got to ride the Tail once. We took the “long” way and while we saw a bunch of lovely scenery, we didn’t get to enjoy the Tail to its fullest.
5 years later, and we have some miles under out belt. We both (finally) invested in better riding gear (though still sporting the exact same jackets), and both a lot more confident. We also went up and down the Tail 3 times, as well as rode around. In total we estimated we did about 1500 curves in the one day. We were very sore! It was well worth it, and we are looking forward to going again in the next couple years. We are trying to make it a by-annually thing. We are even looking into investing in a bigger bike, but still keeping out R3’s. Please enjoy some amazing pics of me riding, thanks to killboy.com!
