New year, same me for the most part. I don’t do resolutions anymore. They never get accomplished and then I get sad about it. So, I just try to be a better me and work on things I need to, no matter the time of the year. For example: I need to work on getting my first book of my new trilogy ready for the editor so I can get it published. That is something I’ll need to work on no matter if it’s the new year or not.
I once did the whole, “I will get to the gym, and eat better” kinds of resolutions, but those really only lasted a couple of weeks. I don’t have the mental fortitude to really commit to those things, even though I would love to get to a gym, or be more self-controlled to eat better all the time. I’m not. I like sweets and I like carbs. I’ve done the “healthy” eating thing. I did it really well too at one point. When my mom passed, I lost the will to really keep up with it because it is a LOT of work. So, I focus on things that are much easier to attain, and anything extra is like a bonus. Some people may think that’s lazy, or that I don’t have a drive. Everyone is different in how they see both themselves and their success in things. I have very low self-image. I am confident enough to admit that. So, if I set a lower personal goal, it’s not because I’m lazy. It’s to help me build back better self-esteem. I’m not someone that has ever had that, no matter how bubbly and outgoing I seem to people. So, small and attainable goals are what I strive to do because small wins stack up to a big win!
I’m participating in a writing challenge this month, so that is helping me keep up with getting some writing done. I want to be able to write at likes 50k words this month with at least one 10k word day. It’s a small goal, but it will mean a lot to me if I can accomplish that. I started using a planner for author self as far as daily goals to complete and monthly goals. Another goal is to actually keep up with using it.
So, no matter your goal for the New Year, you do you! I hope you accomplish everything you are setting out to do. Whether that is a HUGE goal, or small ones like me. You’ve got this! You are amazing and can do anything you put your mind to! HAPPY NEW YEAR! May 2024 be the best year we can make it!
