Are You Thankful?

Thanksgiving is upon us. It’s that time of year when people want to be extra vocal about being thankful for things. Almost like they don’t realize they can be thankful all year long. But, to each their own. This year I’m overly thankful for my best friend. I’ve known him since 6th grade. He was my very first friend when my family moved to the town I graduated in. I got on the bus, first day of school and went, “That one! I’m gonna sit with that one!” I didn’t give him much option as my overly hyper, 10 year old self, sat down and started talking a mile a minute. I don’t know what he thought of me at first besides that I’m this crazy person who is very chatty and is making him be my friend. That’s the start of that. We’ve been best friends ever since.
I never really gave him a choice besides to be my best friend. Since we lived down the street from each other, I would go to his house and hang out and play. As we got older we would do walks around the neighborhood with some of our other friends. We were both active in band (though he practiced much more than I ever did). Even when we went to college in different parts of the state, then I went off and got married, we were still there for each other. It’s one of the only reasons I like social media. Made it much easier for me to talk to him when I lived in other states and at one point, other countries. He’s one of the first people I told about my novel that I wrote, and one of the first I gifted a copy to.
He’s the one person I must have dinner with when I’m in NY visiting family. Even if I’m there for only a day, I have to see him. He’s my ride or die for sure. (No, he’s not my only one either). He even took time and come to one of my signings in Salem, MA this past September. Came out and supported me and we got to have so much fun. I really can’t picture my life without him. If not one ever reads my blogs, that’s your loss. I write this stuff for me. I write it for my friends. Today, I write it for my best friend, Patrick! Thank you for loving me and being my bestie! I love you lots!!
