November 11th is Veterans Day. It’s a day we thank those that have served/are serving in the military. My hubs served in the Army for 10 years. He would have been a lifer if he didn’t get offered his dream job when his last contract was up. I have many many friends and family that are still active or recently got to retire from the military. It’s a thankless job in my opinion. These men and women (and their families) sacrifice so much to keep Americans safe. I have people that try to complain or say that “they didn’t have to sign up”. You’re right. They didn’t, but if they hadn’t, where do you think we would be right now? If we didn’t have military men and women keeping us safe, where would we be? They fight so you can bitch and complain about your life. So, you can be disrespectful shits that wouldn’t know how to defend someone else if you were put in that situation.
Being in the Army taught my husband a lot about discipline and work ethic. Something I firmly believe many many people lack. Being an Army wife for 8 pf his 10 years, I also was humbled by everything. I didn’t get to put him and me first. The Army was always first. Literally had to change my wedding twice because of Army schedules and deployment. All so I could spend his deployment listening to people bitch about how stupid war is and that we could be doing something better. Don’t disagree, but still don’t see you coming up with that “something better”.
I had a 10th grader tell me the other day that military vets that are homeless “did that to themselves”. “Their bad choices are why they are homeless and living on the streets”. That is quoted from this kid. It makes me both angry and sad because our youth have no idea the sacrifice that military people give. Having to deal with PTSD, injuries, family leaving them, being away from family, and so much more… then to get out of the military and have the government also throw them away and not help. No military veteran should be living on the street, homeless and starving. But it is the reality.
So, if you know or see someone that served or is serving our country, be sure to thank them for all they are sacrificing so that we can have the freedom to not need to join ourselves.
