Here we go again! Some more Book World Drama!!!
Do any of you remember “cockygate”? If not, it was when some author decided to patent the word “cocky” for her book titles and was suing literally everyone who had the work “cocky” in their title. I had a few author friends that were going bankrupt from lawyer fees because of this b!tch. She ended up losing her case because you can’t decide that one word is yours alone. That is not how words work… So, to combat this crazy woman, a group of authors came up with some shared trope stories that all had the word “cocky” in the title and even had an entire anthology called “cock”tails.
This new drama is much like that. An author went on her Instagram, bashing a newbie author for “stealing her trope idea”. For those of you not in the book world… you can’t steal a trope idea. Trope is like saying my book is about shifter fated mates, or a dark twist on a fairytale. You can’t claim those as your own. Again, not how books work. This dumb A$$ author decided that the trope: snowed-in, reverse harem/why choose, is her trope and hers alone. I’m not huge into RH. I’ve read a couple good stories, and a couple bad. It’s just not my jam. I do not judge anyone on their personal preferences when it comes to reading. You do you boo. The idiot… lets call her Biznitch, went on a rant on her Instagram slamming this new author for stealing her trope. Newbie ended up taking down her story because she was scared of all the backlash from Biznitch’s followers. Here’s the deal. Another author took both books and stuck them in a analysis system to see if there was any actual plagiarism. Guess what? THERE WASN’T EVEN 1%. These stories are completely different. They only thing they share is the trope. It’s also been reported that Newbie’s story is BETTER than Biznitch’s!
So here, is where things get fun! Authors from all walks of genre have gotten wind of this ideocracy and have decided to fight back for Newbie. They are coming together to all write this same trope: Snowed-in, RH/why choose. It’s “cockygate” all over again, except now we know how to fight people like Biznitch. I honestly feel bad for Biznitch because she is so insecure with her writing that she will attack anyone that challenges her. Authors are supposed to support authors. Help the newbies by sharing vast knowledge. Biznitch shouldn’t have decided to become an author if she doesn’t know how to be supportive, and her followers make me sad as well. Why would you want to follow and support someone that is so insecure they are trying to keep a trope (or a word) all to themselves? Why support someone who is too afraid to be challenged?
What are your thoughts? You know I love keeping you informed on Book world drama… so tell me, did you already hear about this crazy?
