Did you know that they have a term for those of us ages 30-40 who went through an “emo phase”? I’m 36. I kept telling my mom “it’s not a phase”. I just really loved the music from bands like Green Day, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Plain White T’s, Dashboard Confessional, and All American Rejects to name a few. I still love their music and enjoy jamming out. Well, Kansas City, KS hosted the first Phase Fest.
The fest, or really it was a concert, was EPIC! You could only attend if you were over the age of 21. So, it was nice to go to something and there were only adults. The concert went till after midnight, but boy do I wish it could have been longer. We got to enjoy Red Jumpsuit Apparatus near the stage. Then we got pushed out by the crazy amount of people, and went to enjoy the rest of the bands in the stands.
I’ll be posting a few of the videos I took from the show. Short clips, and sorry (not sorry) for my singing in some of them.
Of course I have to put AAR as my most favorite of the group, though I do have to give most engaging to RJA. All American Rejects definitely played to their crowd. They knew what songs we wanted to hear, and didn’t try to fluff it up. Red Jumpsuit Apparatus did the same. A couple of the bands played some of their “new” songs that aren’t out yet which was really cool, but took a chunk of time. By the time AAR came on, it was already past 11:00pm, and the fest was technically supposed to end at 10:00pm. I do have to also shout out Story of the Year band for his great choice ins topping his show when there was an injury. He made sure that whoever was needing assistance in the crowd got it immediately. He stopped his set, and told everyone to “move the fuck out of the way”. It was great and I was really happy to see that! So, please enjoy my last AAR clip for you! Rock on Elder Emo!
