School’s Out!

I am so glad that is officially summer for teacher me. As of right now I won’t be returning to the classroom next year. I don’t have a teaching job lined up, but I do have applications out there. Come August, my sabbatical from teaching may change if I get offered a job. So, for now, the plan is to completely focus on Author me! I’m going to work on a few stories that are brewing in my brain. I’m also going to work on promoting my books. I have an idea to update the cover to a couple of my books, and I’m really interested in focusing on the signing in Salem.

I love teaching and WILL go back to a classroom, but not right now. If I get offered a job at one of the specific schools I applied to, I’ll be back to work end of summer and will need to use my sick days for signings. If I don’t, I’ll be 100% in author mode. I have a plan for the summer and the upcoming year when I would have been teaching. I’m going to be walking my dogs, working more in my community, working on multiple stories, and substituting for my local schools. If you have teacher friends, ask how their year went and I bet a lot of them will say they wish they could take a year off. I’m lucky to have a very supporting family, and have saved this whole year so that I’ll still have money when I’m not teaching. I know that I’m lucky and that others are not. So, here’s to a very long year!

I was very lucky in having an amazing team to work with. These 3 ladies that rocked 4th grade with me were fantastic and we were very close. 2 of them are staying at the school I left. I’m taking off a year, but will never go back to that school. Another of us is transferring to another school, but staying in district. Maybe we’ll get to teach together again. We were a rocking team. I know that other grade levels in the building were jealous because the 4 of us were so close and worked so well together. I wish those ladies all the best. I’ll miss them the most. We are all staying in touch as we live fairly close to each other. Happy Summer!
